Had the same issued with AVG.

I am currently running with AVG 7.5 as it works with AC fine. I have an outstanding Diagnostics ticket with AVG who are looking into the issue.

The email they sent has the following info:

>>>>>>>Dear Sir/Madam,

thank you for your email.

Please accept our apology. Unfortunately, the latest AVG program update might not finish correctly in certain cases resulting in situation you have experienced.

We would recommend you to restart the affected station to finish the update process.

In case that the issue is not solved after restart, use a workaround for solving of this issue which is mentioned in our FAQ:

http://www.avg.com/faq?num=1561

If the issue persists even after performing steps in the mentioned FAQ, please send us the AVG configuration and LOG files for analysis.

We will be able to identify the source of the issue correctly then and assist you in resolving it as soon as possible. Please use these simple steps to send us the mentioned files:

- Save the attached "avgdiag.avgdi" file to your computer (you can choose the location, however we recommend to use your Desktop).

- Launch the saved file by double-clicking on its colored icon and the "AVG Diagnostics 8.0" tool will start automatically.

- Enter your e-mail address and a detailed problem description into the appropriate areas.

- Click on the "Diagnose and send results" button.

We will receive the data and contact you back with further information.

Thank you for your cooperation. It is appreciated.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Try running the file fix prog to see if it works for you. It failed for me and I have sent the diagnostics back for further investigation.

What would be helpful is a list of AV and firewall progs that do work with Vista and AC?

As I understand the situation, the latest AVG update included new or improved firewall technology.

Posts on the AC forums seem to indicate that uninstalling AVG, and then reinstalling it WITHOUT THE FIREWALL portion, corrects the issue.

This obviously leaves you without a 3rd party firewall . . .

Zone Alarms (Free) firewall seems to be AC & Vista friendly.

the M$oft product OneCare - definetly works.

avg had this same problem with WoW awhile back too, avg will put out an update in a day or so to fix it, but more likely it'll be a week or so since there's a lot less ac customers to complain than there are wow customers.

Or someone could invest the time in trying to find a setting to allow it to stop messing with AC.

Check the firewall setup portion and see what you can do.

Never hurts to try

the guy in our allegiance ended up uninstalling the version that he paid for, and installed the free version. It fixed the problem for him.

Just been sent this:

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your email.

In order to solve the situation you are experiencing, please use the following instructions. They consist of upgrading your AVG to the latest version, where the reported issue should be fixed.

1. Download the latest installation file from this webpage:

http://www.avg.com/download?prd=ais

- When you are prompted, please do not open this file directly from the internet, but click the "Save" button and choose a location, where the installation file should be stored. We recommend saving the file to the Desktop.

2. Please check whether you are logged into Windows under some account with administrative rights. For more details, please visit this FAQ:

http://www.avg.com/faq?num=1196

3. Locate the downloaded AVG installation file (it has a four color square icon and its name starts with AVG_...) and launch it.

- Choose the "Repair installation" option and follow the wizard.

- When finished, please restart the computer.

4. Update the AVG program. For more details, please visit this FAQ:

http://www.avg.com/faq?num=1552

At this point, the issue will be resolved.

Going to give it a go over the weekend when I have more time.

Or you could mention what some of the options in the Interwebs security portion of the program are...

I don't have it, I'm not paying to get it, so that leaves telling us about it and trial and error.
