Trial is just that... a trial. I appreciate the heads up on it, but at the end of the day, it will only tell me so much.

the game is the same in trial form as it is if you are paying for it.

Its definitely become an "easier" game, but it seems so in a good, very fun way. They've put in place some great hunting grounds that are outdoors and it seems they have finally got around to addressing Outdoor hunting xp and loot to make it almost in line with some high level dungeon areas.

Put this way...My Martyr mage always struggled to live, but now he is having an easier time at it. Not to say it isn't still difficult though, just takes the sting off a bit.

BTW, Greetings Fist!

Maybe I'm just an MMO masochist, but to me the challenge was part of the fun. Getting lost wandering the Direlands, putting a quick recovery party together to go retrieve corpses, or just plain wandering into a hornet's nest of bad guys when you weren't expecting it was what created so many great memories for me.

I've been playing LOTO and a little bit of DDO because they're free. They seem convenient enough, but there is little there to generate excitement.

Playing some of these newer games has had me reconsidering Asheron's Call a bit, but I guess you really just can't go home again. Maybe the game is the same and it's me who has changed, or maybe the loss of so many good friends and allegiance members over the years makes Dereth feel like a ghost town now.

I'm seriously considering a return, myself. After playing almost every other major MMO that's released since '99, I still find myself pining for some Drudges now and then. I know my friends would probably enjoy returning, too.

Hmm...

honestly, you should only return if you understand how this game functions now. With a level cap of 275, everyones main focus is to level up as soon as possible. Furthermore, the majority of the new and interesting content that turbine adds is centered around 200+ characters. This game seems survive mainly because of the possibility of ACM (attended combat macro). Leveling to 200+ manually is a horrendous task that I would never wish upon my worst of enemies. However, if you would like to play the game the way it was back in the beginning, that is still entirely possible. Just dont expect to have a lot of friends interested in the same thing. This game is still around because of how many different ways you can choose to play, whether you just wanna grind 24/7 to reach the higher level content, or bask in the nostalgic glory of all the old content that still exists.

AC has undergone many many changes, I'd start with the free trial though that will not give you enough understanding of the high level content.
