I think AC is the only MMO that has a soft level cap. Every other game once you hit the max level you can't increase your skills at all, just grind for gear and shit

I believe it took just over or just under a year for someone to max level.

Del Cabon I believe.

And yes, being able to continually improve your character after max level is a humongous + to AC.

Capping and looking forward to nothing but crap PvP and gear grinding makes me cringe when I think about playing literally ANY newer MMO.

Del Cabon was on HG, he was the first to hit lev100. Grinding Coral golems on aerlinthe. Tim the enchanter was the first 126 but i know it was possible only with xp chains.

Ahh, good old 3 towers...lots of fond memories there I used to park low level alts at the boss and then farm him for yucky keys and skulls.

It turned out to be very fruitfull down the road when cantrips and salvaging were introduced.

The best thing about AC for me was the random loot gen. Love it or hate it, it truely is one of a kind.

To this day I have yet to play a game (any) that even comes anywhere near the depth and scale of loot that Asheron's had. I really miss it.

The crafting/tinkering/imbuing systems are also some of the best I have ever seen in a game.

Yes- I truly love the loot system. Now that I'm playing again too it's so fun to go get a certain ingredient to make a dropped idea work for my char after tinkering. So- at the end of soul fearing if I remember right there was 3 chests. Did one drop good loot and the others poor loot?

Tim the Enchanter was not the first to level 126. Tim the Enchanter was a vassal to Animal of FF who was in a chain... the first person to level 126 was Tim the Enchantor on Thistledown.

If it was for XP chains then Tim missed out big on them. He was a monarch with barely over 1000 followers when he hit 126 and his closest vassal wasn't even in his 90's yet(though he was close). Tim was a power gamer of a different time, never had a chain under him. He did play from work and from his house. He powered up off tuskers in BSD at times taking the whole dungeon to himself. He then later moved to the south dire Tusker Camps. Game released Nov 3 1999, Tim hit max level on Thistledown Feb 2001. At level 100 Tim had less then 600 followers. He was deleted mid 2003. It took just over a year to hit max level years ago.

There were 4 chests at the end, 2 of them gave decent drops, the other 2 were sub-par.

3 Towers was a great passive way to earn a ton of salvage by using mules and alts you normally don't play. I ended up spending so much time there that I could run low level mules in faran robes through all 3 towers without setting off a trap or spawning 1 zombie. It was also easy to kill the boss just using a cheap bow/xbow with fire ammo by standing in the doorway to his room and dodging his slow bolt spells.

Sometime after salvaging went live I think I had around 12 alts/mules parked in a rotation at that boss at one point. I think the timer on pickup was 5 hours or something for the 5 use key. I would just loot and log, repeat every 5 hours or when I could until I had 20+ 5 use keys on each mule. I had 2 accounts and had made 1 main high skill salvager on each account to do the actual salvaging, so it was just a matter of dual logging one of the main salvagers in the loot room while the mules on the other account looted untill they were full and handed the stuff to the salvager.
