Was grooming him today, something I usually have my girls do. Found a grapefruit-sized lump just on the inside of his right hind leg, where it meets his body. He's a golden so he has all that flowing fur there (plus it's on the inner part of his leg) so it's not visible. Even though I know it's there, I can't see it at all, even when he's on his belly. But I can feel it.

He's a very old man (will be 14 in Feb) so I guess it's not surprising but it still worries me, a LOT. How long has that been there?? Is it benign? Malignant? Something different altogether? It doesn't hurt him to touch it at all, he doesn't limp, or anything. In fact, if it wasn't for his white face and the fact that he's slowed down a bit you wouldn't even know he's so old.

Of course the vet isn't open today, being New Year's and a Sunday- and probably won't be tomorrow either.

What a way to start the New Year It could always be worse, I suppose- but still.

Gaev, I hope it is just one of those 'old dog' lumps and is benign

stop worrying, if it's not bothering the dog it can wait until the vet opens on Weds, happy new year

Foxy it's not something they could do anything about in the ER. It's not like it's gonna kill him today (boy I hope I don't have to eat those words lol). I figure if he's had it for however long he'll live another couple days till the vet is open.

FYC, I know- I guess that even though we have been aware of his age and mortality for some time, it just...really hit home today, is all.

edit: me too, murron- me too.

More like I just wish they were open today, but I don't need them open this second.

I do believe you're on to something- it would make him super happy at any rate!

Actually, scratch that...I am making banana bread tomorrow. I will make him the happiest dog on the planet and give him a big slice when it's done.
