this is friggen WEIRD!

how many animals can you name that bang a different species and produce fertile offspring? plants are good at crossing but they are bizarre and can tolerate all sorts of extra chromosomes. from what i know of animals, the wrong amount of DNA is almost always catastrophic equaling death. (exceptions likes xxy or trisomy 21).

this raises a million questions about shark evolution.

is it that weird?
wouldn't this be on par with wolves and dogs breeding...or maybe even different dog breeds breeding?

i don't know much about sharks but they always say they have changed little in millions of years. it makes me wonder if this finding applies to other sharks or if it has anything to do with how highly conserved everyone says they are.

dogs are always going to be weird examples by themselves since they diverged from wolves only tens of thousands of years ago and have been bred and selected for by us extensively.

maybe the shark thing is only weird because our definition of a species is so bad.
usually the definition depends on if they can make fertile offspring or not.

nature is always defying our neat little categories.
