Yes.
Good for them too. They pay taxes based upon the value of the car. if it's a gift they get stuck with blue book or close to it. If it is a sale they pay taxes on a dollar.
I bought a car from my girlfriend. We did this in CA and it worked out great. The relationship not so much.

and what ever you do, make sure it is written in the Bill of Sale **AS IS**!
it varies state to state, but unless there is proven negligence, you would be fine if they wrecked it two days later.
i know in MA, you are free and clear from just about everything doing that.
this dumb bitch i sold a car to snapped the front drivers side wheel off and totaled the car a week later.
lucky for me, i had *as is* written just right...i was told that without that, it would have been my responsibility for 30 days.
as an added bonus she had 2 speeding tickets on her road littered with potholes...one of which was what caused her to snap the wheel off.

like others have said "sell it" more than a dollar but less than say a grand. Make sure AS IS is on the bill of sale. In Louisiana that covers your arse of everything.
