the assassination on Wednesday of another Iranian nuclear scientist may now prompt Iran to try to respond in kind.

The murder in Tehran of Mostafa Ahmadi-Roshan is the fourth such attack on Iran's scientists in just two years.

It comes on top of a sophisticated cyber sabotage programme and two mysterious explosions at Iranian military bases, one of which in November killed the general known as 'the godfather' of Iran's ballistic missile programme.

No-one is claiming responsibility for these attacks but Iran blames its longstanding enemy, Israel, and occasionally the US.

Sir Richard Dalton, Britain's Ambassador to Iran from 2002 to 2006 and now an associate fellow at the UK think tank, Chatham House, believes the undeclared campaign against Iran's nuclear scientists is entering a dangerous phase.

"The next step is for Iran to answer like for like" says Dalton.

"If a state is behind this then this is international state terrorism and it's inviting a response. It looks like a further twist that will lead to a tit-for-tat"

In one of the earlier debates this fall, several of those morons whined that we needed "covert" operations in Iran. They were too goddamn stupid realize two big things:

1. Congratulations, asshats, for tipping your hand.

2. Who says we aren't?!?!

Our State department has emphatically denied any involvement whatsoever on this incident or any other attack on Iran or Iranians, but I hope we're just lying. I'm not thrilled with spy movie tactics, but by golly if *someone* is going to do it, it should be us.

The whole reason behind carbombing a few nuclear scientists is so we DON'T have to do this.

Oh? Why is that? Has Iran attacked the US lately and I am unaware? Curious what they did that deserves a nuclear response.

Hopefully though they can respond in-kind if you do something that stupid for no cause.

how ever you try to justify killing an innocent person to go to sleep at night, does not change the fact that an innocent scientific scholar was brutally murdered under the guise of "freedom" and "justice"

i call it hypocrisy my self...

Not innocent, and by my first post in this thread I'm on the record as not being *entirely* cool with it.

Well, I don't know if this particular scientist was innocent or not, but I also don't know if we were involved in the assassination or not. I'd like to think that we wouldn't take out scientists who were developing a more nutritious breakfast cereal. If a scientist is providing providing support to a rogue program, then he's responsible for its results, and is therefore no more innocent than the program itself is.

The Right likes to throw around the "aid and comfort to the enemy" definition of treason, but they use it in the metaphorical sense when it only applies in the literal sense. A scientist working on an illegal nuclear weapon is indeed providing literal "aid" and is not innocent.

where do you get illigal from?

iran has every right to build a nuke bomb just as much as any other country does.

this whole IAEA is an agreement forced on developing countries too wag the dog and keep the rich in power longer.

any reasonable person will not call one country having the bomb completely fine and dandy and another quest to acquired it so it can be on equal footing "illegal"
