EDIT: As far as driving in water, it's no problem, just don't open the doors.  also I guess it was good that the water was below the air intake on the engine. Still was pretty damned cool driving in 2 feet of water in a compact car.
it can be really bad if it gets into a clutch, but automatics don't have to worry about it.

Our city shuts down if we get even half of what OP's town got. I got out of school my Senior year in HS 2 hours early because the county THOUGHT it MIGHT get cold enough to freeze and they didn't want anyone driving home if there might be ice on the road...lol. Turns out, it didn't freeze. We got about 1/4 inch of snow back in December, but it melted away in a few hours. We usually get 1 "good" snow of 3" or so, but nothing yet. I'm kind of bummed about it. Will probably be like 105 all summer long with 100% humidity too, so too hot to go swimming as well.

I hate you and your snow. I hope you and Frosty and Rudolph all melt. I'll be over here with no snow and perfectly happy about it. I have cold bare hard dark frozen ground and plenty of it, ha.

Yes, I'm from Wisconsin but I'm not bragging. It's only snow, not lava or a foot of water. Snow isn't that difficult to drive through where I would imagine that lava and a foot of water are. Anyone that can has my full endorsement to brag.
People around here don't have winter tires. Bald all season tires in snow is a disaster. There was an inch of snow here and I could barely make it over the bump of an intersection in my miata. We aren't prepared and don't have the proper tires for the stuff.

Yep, the Pacific NW...gotta love it...Portland pretty much follows the same rules as where Jezza and Reap live...we got hit with 2-3" of snow Tuesday night and had it actually stuck and not melted away overnight with the rain Portland would have been locked in. I'd love to have at least one damn good snowfall here every year -- in 2008 we actually had about a foot of snow in one good storm and everybody here completely freaked out.
