I'm a little surprised, as well.
I would definitely vote for him if he wins the nomination, but I don't think he has anywhere near as good a chance against Barry as Mitt does.

I can't stand Newt. It's Paul or 3rd Party for me.
Say what you want about him and his voting record, he's different enough of a candidate that voting for him would be a statement that you don't support the status quo.

Newt as front runner is a lot more pleasant than Newt as underdog.
Romney got some hits in but Newt came off as a lot smarter.

I keep hearing that Newt is the smartest guy in the room all the time, and mostly that has been true. But I believe Mitt is more pragmatic and data intelligent. Getting a perfect 1600 on your SAT and graduating from Harvard with DUAL MBA's in Law and Business, both with honors, either says he's wicked smart, a hard worker, or both.
