To say the economy isn't getting better is dishonest, at best. It was BAD before, very bad, and anyone thinking it could get better in a couple short years is wholly retarded or crazy. The president's role in all of this is very minor, regardless of his political affiliation or agenda.

That would depend on where you live and what field you're in. Many parts of the nation still suck, but there are a great many areas that have improved dramatically in recent years as well. Overall, our economy is growing at a slow pace.
Would you be praising these small gains if our president was a Republican (or just not Obama)?

No.
Regardless of what party the president is from I don't want to hear, "Listen, I'm in the middle of a s*** storm here, but the good news is we improved .001% thanks to me".
I want hear him say where we are as a country is unacceptable and that he will do a better job to make things right.
