Remember that good headphones alone won't get you good sound, you have to also consider the source. Buy a sound card if you don't have one and look for high quality audio files. I got the Xonar DG for $30, even a $30 sound card is better than integrated sound.

you have to burn in good headphones, btw. you can get software to do it for you. i did it to my sennheiser ear plugs and it changed them so much it was insane. they went from like ugh why did i spend the money on these to omg these are amazing!

I looked these Audio Technica ATH-M50 up and do like what I see, they are on my list to get one day.

Any recommendations on software? Never heard of this process.
Edit: Also, ikkoikki, I'd have to buy either a USB sound processor or find a decent pci-express card for my laptop.

You don't need special software to burn in headphones, they burn in naturally through use. Typically it takes 100 hours. Just listen to them normally and they will burn in through gradual use.
oh you have a laptop. Ok, n/m. Just get high quality audio files then.

Can't really go wrong with Sennheiser anything pretty much. I bought some earbuds from them a few days ago

well you either burn it in with music you regularly listen to or you use a program that flips between the various frequencies that do it the best for every music. i used a program to do it and just buried them under crap so i wasn't listening to it the whole time.

Sure, you can do it that way, I just don't think it's necessary. Plus it's a bit of a hassle.

lol what? i press start and put a sweat shirt over my phones. SUCH A HASSLE!  makes my isht sound a billion times better in like 4 days instead of it taking months.
