D&D(?) Typical Town amenities? |
I'm looking to design a town, in minecraft, and want to make sure I get everything. I'm just trying to get an idea of the basic business types in a town.
So far I've got:
Grocer/Shopkeep - General Goods
Blacksmith - Armor / Weapon Repair
Healer / Cleric - Hospital
Town Hall & Jail - Rules & Regulations
Trading Bazaar - Central Park with trading stands around the outside
Library - Enchanting Table, Books, Alchemy Supplies
Tavern / Inn - Starting Point
Stables / Farm
Mayor's Mansion
Residents Housing
Theater (Could go in Tavern)
Casino (Could go in Tavern)
Did I miss anything?

Seedy town? Rich town? Port town? Middle of a trade route? Secluded from most of the outside world?
Elvish? Human? Dwarven? Mixed?
Forest? Oceanic? Desert?
Too many variables, man.
But throw in a whorehouse for good measure.

Ahh yeah... That is a good idea. I meant to add Gentleman's club to the list; but completely forgot lol
I mean... That should cover everything your typical Human Town would need.... but I might be missing something obvious

Garrison for the town guards, if present
Slums, if a large enough town
Redlight district, if a large enough town
Warehouses or other areas where items might be shipped in (a port, for example if near a large river or body of water)

Library is VERY unusual unless this is a major mage or bard town(probably the latter since you are having a theater and that kind of screams bards)... I mean the vast majority of people can't read.
You might want a wheelwright who makes wheels barrels and other such items.
You might want a fletcher who makes bows and arrows and such.
There should be more than one tavern.
Casino would almost demand a thieves guild.

oo, good ideas there.
I can't believe I forgot the Fletcher; it was one of my favorite NPCs in AC lol. I think I have a good spot for the thieves guild too. There's a big mountain nearby, and it has a natural opening up top that could act as a lookout over the town

A temple or shrine to a deity
A graveyard or catacombs that lie beneath the temple/shrine. They should also seethe with undead ready to overrun the town at a moment's notice, because undead are awesome.
