What happened to all the 40 yard liners? Used to, most Americans were a little bit left, or right of center. Now the old moderates are today's conservatives, and the old GOP is now the Tea Party. The whole nation is shifting to the right. I mean, are we really having congressional debates over birth control and family planning? Seriously? Birth control? This isn't 1958.

If not, that 8.3% becomes about 10%
the yahoo article talks about the % of people that are "under employed" which is their term for stopped looking for work or are only working part-time and want to work more and that is at 15.1% (down from 15.2%)

I'm not saying that the democrats did anything to improve the job scenario. I'm not a partisan hack. Both sides are screwing the US over and they can only see that spending is the only way out of this mess (which is a mess that was ironically started by over spending).
I have yet to see any bill passed that actually would assist in creating local job growth. Spending extra money is a temporary solution.. once the money is gone so are the jobs. Bills need to be made to stop the hemorrhaging of jobs overseas and make this country more competitive. If that's increasing import taxes from other countries, or harsher penalties on countries that flood their money to tax safe heavens so be it. But more importantly, we need to take a better look at why the money is going to these area's instead of remaining internally and then see if our other policies are causing this to happen and rectify that.
