Not exactly. At low levels it's probably fine. As you get higher in level you might want to change it up.
Take my UA/Void for example:
100/10/80/50/100/40
Spec: UA/Void/Melee Def
Train: Arcane/Healing/Item/Critter/Life/Mana C
5/4 Adept/Hearty Epic suit.
He's a hybrid that changes slightly with the next patch. He will be going light weapon and shield speced instead of UA.

A new school of magic that deals Nether damage. Nether damage can't be vulned or protected. It's basically like flat damage. It also has dots and some other spells that decrease healing rating, etc. Dots have the obvious bleed effect but also increase dps of other attacks.
So for harder content, I'll do something like this:
Imperil/Vuln/Dots; whip out UA and shield and finish it off.
Or I might cast Nether Arcs, Streaks, etc. if something is out of range or doesn't have a lot of health. Void also has a ring spell called Clouded Soul.
Edit: So it's similar to War magic but not really lol.
