The number on my cars tires I've ever had were NOT right.
They are a minimum requirement. In terms of PSI for my tires.
Went with the tire shop's suggestion (diff from the tire suggestion) and have never had a problem.
the side of the tire lists the maximum pressure, not the minimum, and a lot of shops default to 32psi, so don't expect Jiffy Lube to put the right level in aftermarket specialty tires.

if you don't know and don't feel like bending down and searching for it on the tire...it is written on a label on the inside of your driver door on the frame in most modern cars as shown in the image below

If you change to high performance, low profile tires, or something other than stock tires for your car, it's likely to be some combination of that number with what the tire says. (or at least that is what I gathered after googling it.)
I checked for my car, and it's similar enough to what the tire states that I wouldn't notice the difference anyway.
