LUBBOCK,TX (KCBD) -
One Lubbock police officer is recovering after being attacked Tuesday. Officer Bryan Schwartner was called out to the suites at Overton located at Glenna Goodacre Blvd. and Avenue W around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon on a disturbance report.
Schwartner located the suspect on the 4th floor of the building. Police say Kabir Isola, 20, hit the officer with a large serrated BBQ spatula and tried to gouge his eyes out. Isola then choked the officer with both hands, police say, while trying to push him over the 4th floor balcony, rendering Schwartner unconscious.
Another officer was able to detain Isola, who claimed the devil was inside him.
Officer Schwartner was transported to Covenant with multiple lacerations and contusions and released. Isola was taken to University Medical Center with injuries sustained in the struggle then was booked into the county jail on the charge of Attempted Capital Murder.
