How many total teachers are there in that area?
Why do you think its wrong for someone with a masters degree to make $100k+ after a few years/decades? Some fields hire for more than that with just a bachelors degree.
Republicans always say that if you want to make a lot of money you should work hard and get a good education. Teachers should be held up as a prime example of that, but instead you polirage against them because they tend to vote democrat and unionize.

A lot of schools in Chicago are literally (used correctly) trash and a lot of these teachers deserve every penny they ever ask for.

My mom is a teacher in a metro area (not Chicago  ) and she gets "Hazard Pay" because she teaches at a school in the bad part of town. 
Teachers here were just given a retroactive pay cut of almost 3%. Meanwhile the school board members make $36,000 for doing a part-time job. Uh wtf? A lot of the expense is the administration. In my opinion that is the area that should get cut first.

The main thing is in the case of those fields that pay more for someone with a masters, it's because a masters degree is felt to bring a higher return, be it profit, efficiency etc. The higher education has a direct and quantifiable return. Whereas in government there is no measurable or direct correlation between a masters degree and a public school teachers performance or the expected outcome of the teaching. None. It is simply yet another instance government spending other peoples money blindly.

There should be zero education beyond firearms/marksmanship and survival. When the world collapses it will be far more useful than science, math and english.

Except don't Charter Schools offer that? They've failed miserably in all the reports I have read about them.
