last night I got an email calling out my team for not following the rules of the game for the 1st - 3rd graders basketball.
in particular not allowing the defense to get set (NO fast break league).
the parents and coach of the opposing team went to the league and petitioned our removal as coaches for THREE fast breaks in the game.
we did this in response to their TWELVE, yes i counted, TWELVE fast breaks in a row. sure, i will fully admit we stopped making our kids wait as retaliation.
they stopped the game each time, one time a parent (not a coach) went on the court, stopped the kid and grabbed the ball from one of my kids.
today, my grandmother just called and let me know that at the town recreation meeting this was also brought up, and the opposing coaches and parents all were there...funny i wasn't invited...
guess with the other coach being one of the Good ole Boys this kind of thing happens!
the only reason i will be allowed to coach the final game Saturday is because one of my players father is the chief of police who was on the detail for the meeting and spoke up.
him telling the FULL story is what allowed me to continue, but NOTHING was said to the opposing coach nor parents for their behavior.
the end result of the game, was he was PISSED he "lost" AND we shut down the best player in the league to the point he quit on his team completely.
we dont keep score, but he has a parent tracking stats every game.
he also stacked his team with 3rd graders.
WHY the hell do people get so involved in their kids sports that they act like this?
at that age it is about TEACHING the kids and FUN, not whining when things dont go your way and distorting the rules!
GOD i cant wait for Deck Hockey to start...most of us coaches play in the adult league...things like this work themselves out!
