i mean how do you lie to your own kid? what if they ask me about a crazy homeless guy? i can't just say well he's crazy and leave it at that because then my kid will grow up to be one of the ignorant masses. nope, i'll have to tell the kid all about crazy. "They have a disease like any other except it's their brain and their mind has turned on them. your waking life is a symphony of brain processes and any one of them can go wrong. you can lose your consciousness in bits and pieces or have it horribly warped." if my kid if religious i might say that jesus hit the guy in the head with a hammer and society kicked him in the balls shortly thereafter. then they'll grow up jaded just like me.

the other day i was getting sushi with my friends and a guy who had a stroke. the guy has a desperate aphasia - he knows what he wants to say but can't always produce the word. he has a slight slur, little use of his right hand, a limp that spares his right leg. most people give him weird looks cuz they have no idea what to make of him. their stigma nearly sickens me before I realize that it's not their fault they are ignorant.
