It's how you define power. There are generals who can start wars tomorrow. There are political superpower CEO conglomerates and groups who make the whole world move and work for them. There are government agencies and top level guys who can make a call and have anyone anywhere killed.
Lord Nathan rothschilde was probably the most powerful man in the world at his time when his family ruled the financial world everywhere. There are people like that now.

This is also a good point...Oprah might be more influential, but does that equate to power? Technically, though, the president can't start wars either. Only Congress can. We've seen how it works in reality, though.

no it doesn't. We havent had an "official" war since WW2. Yet every decade we find ourselves in at least 1 major conflict. We were in at least 2 wars this past decade, including a few clandestine wars such a in Pakistan.
