If you belong to the church of body modification, they can't discriminate against you for tats or piercings.

it requires a waiver and depending on the how bad they need their numbers there is a good chance it will be denied

Not these days.

Hell, I joined in '98 and they waived through a dude who had a profanity scorpion tattooed on the top of his head.

The stinger went down the back of his neck and the legs went down to the tops of his ears.

It was pretty badass.

There sure are a lot of holier-than-though tos in this thread.

Some of you really seem to feel threatened by folks sporting a little ink.

So much so, you feel the need to extol the virtues of conformity at every positive response to ink.

lol.

I've heard that the military won't take anyone who has wrist tattoos that are past the shirt sleeve, but I've never heard that about medical school. And I don't believe it, either. Tattoos have become much more acceptable these days. I know a bunch of teachers who have visible tattoos and I think that used to be frowned upon but not anymore.

I don't know of any medical schools that expressly ban it. You do have to interview and it's fair to say that anyone with tattoos showing outside of a suit is going to have a hard time in the professional world. It's also fair to say that anyone with tattoos visible to their peers, patients, and bosses is going to run into some problems as a student, resident, fellow, and junior attending.

The more important thing to know is that any physician with a caduceus (with the possible exeption of people with a military medicine connection) is a douche...

My husband deciding to get his recent half-sleeve was one of the final straws that broke this camel's back...

Definitely not who I married 7 years ago, or thought I did.

I work in an office setting with people from age 19-60 and I would say at least half have at least 1 tattoo.
