I remodeled a house once that was built pre-1900. The lumber in that house was riginal, old growth timber, and its dimensions were correct. It even had the old square nails.

And technically about 1/8" ish short of 1.5".

In other news, 2x4s aren't 2x4, neither are 1x8s and 2x10s. Meanwhile, water is still wet and the sky is blue.

*edit* and yeah, I was annoyed when I found this out too, but I found it out when I was a teenager during one of the many construction/general laborer type jobs I had...

wait, so you looked at a 2x2 and couldn't tell that it wasn't a full 2 inches on each side?...
treated lumber is put under pressure to strengthen it. It's the correct size before it's pressurized and treated, and it shrinks some...how do people not know this by the time they are adults? I figured that out on my own when I was like 5.
