At least I have the balls to admit I've used the service, how it is intended and stopped the second I didn't need it.

That probably says a lot more than the skanks of ACF who abuse it and would never admit in a million years they use it.

I would rather be working in a heartbeat. I don't like being dependent on anyone. My poor kids are saints.

You have to disclose assets when you apply for food stamps. In Florida a valuable new car will count against you and you have to disclose your monthly bills, but "debt" in general is not going to help someone get food stamps. Since states set these guidelines if you are upset with them then let your congressmen know.

More information here.

Have your friends been poor most of their lives? People in poverty tend to not have very good money management skills and repeat the same behaviors over and over. I still stand by the idea that recipients of food stamps need to attend financial literacy/budgeting courses, nutrition classes, and shopping classes. If nothing it will deter people from getting them because it will be too much hassle, and for the others it will give them skills they are lacking.

Minimum wage here is the standard Federal Minimum Wage ~ $7.25 :\

I think the major problem is that most people lie on their applications... and it costs more money than it is worth to fact check every application.

I have no problem with food stamps. It is pretty much one of the few government stimulus things that work.

http://www.fns.usda.gov/snap/outreach/pdfs/bc_facts.pdf

-Every $5 in new SNAP benefits generates $9.00 in total community spending.

-Every additional dollar’s worth of SNAP benefits generates 17 to 47 cents of new
spending on food.

-On average, $1 billion of retail food demand by SNAP recipients generates close to 3,000
farm jobs.

I've played the troll game too long on this one. Just to make you feel important on ACF, you win!

last i heard about the U.S. population, it was closer to 330 million. also, those 400 probably give more to charity (like food banks and soup kitchens) than your 150 million combined.

I guess this shows how well the free market economy and trickle down economics really work. America where the top 400 people have more money then the other 150 million Americans combined and we don't see a problem with this.

I checked to see what qualifies someone. 2 people have to make under 1,400... I work minimum wage and I still wouldn't be able to qualify... Who would think there would be people poorer than me?

What do you make an hour Whipsmack, how many hours a week do you work and what do you take home every 2 weeks on a paycheck (after taxes of course).

Just curious. And no, I don't have some hidden intent to make you look bad or feel poor or anything. I am legitimately curious what somebody making that takes home.

I can say that minimum wage here is $8.80 an hour We have no problems with bills or saving money, but living costs are very cheap here. I have made a choice, not to go into any sort of debt. I make pennies compared to most of you but I don't even have to work full-time to pay bills.

The people I know of that are on food stamps, have new cars and spend all their money on worthless crap. They are in so much debt, and that is why they qualify for the food stamps. So if you are irresponsible, you are rewarded.

I'm jelly. Budgeting $350/month on food (and I know I could probably get by on a bit less, but not while eating healthy food, at least not around here), I figure I'd have $100-150 left over each month, after expenses, were I to move out of my parents' house. I make just under $26k/yr, or about $12.50/hr.
