i can't imagine an actual sitting position that isn't utilizing back muscles.
if you've had chronic back pain before then it's all out the window. chronic pain is a different animal- it's a neurological problem.

Sounds to me like you're already doing all the right things you can on your own. And ignore the idiots trying to tell you to walk if off and such. My guess is that they really have no idea what real back pain is.

I sprained my back once while cutting down small trees in our side yard.
Doc said I had to move around and do exercises he gave me to help it.
What he told me did help.
