I gotta give Peyton some credit for showing up to his own 'cut conference', I don't think I've seen that before.

starving hysterical naked, dragging themselves through the streets,
angelheaded hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection
to the starry dynamo in the machinery of night.

he couldnt pay the bonus, and unless it was a hugely incentive deal then he either was going to retire, get cut, or play in a Colt uniform. it is going to be difficult to see him in another uniform if he chooses to go into free agency...everyone is speculating on where he will go, but retirement is still on the table. the reports on his progress is good, but he's throwing under controlled circumstances to Clark, Collie, and Stokely at Duke....
any GM is going to have a lot of questions about his health and gameday playability...the coach is going to have retool his offense for Manning's playstyle. (not a easy thing to do)
and his legacy, Manning does care about his Legacy...Unitas went to SD, Montana to KC, and Farve...we all know that debacle. IMO, its still a possiblity that he will retire.
i remember going to Manning's first game at the RCA dome...he lost to the Jimmy Johnson/Dan Marino's Dolphins...and if i remember he had one TD and over 300 yds for the game. who knew he would end up the icon that he is today...
its a sad day here in Indiana.

I didn't realize that Irsay was an idiot.
He did the right thing, even if you dont think so.
You assume too much.
If Manning goes on to compete and is healthy, he absolutely did not do the right thing.
If he winds up retiring or not recovering, or going somewhere and making a fool of himself, then he did.
Or can you see the future
edit: There are easily 5-6 different scenarios that could play out from here. Not all of which make Irsay's decision the right one.
Why is so much of the media and the NFL fanbase automatically assuming that what is going to happen is "Well Luck is the second coming of Jesus Christ so **** Peyton Manning."

Inevitable, unfortunately.
Too much cash to pay with too little certainty.
I just hope that wherever Manning ends up, he won't get permanently, severely hurt. Neck injuries are just scary.

It doesn't matter if Luck is the second coming or not, it would have been retarded to pay 50 million in QB salaries this year. Realistically the Colts are so full of holes right now that even with Manning they weren't going to be real contenders. Even if Luck busts you are paying him an amount you can live with and stiill start to rebuild the team which had to happen regardless. If he busts you cut him and cut losses, at least you were able to use the 40 million this year alone on Mannings cap hit and add desperately needed pieces.

I'm worried the Lions are heading down a similar path. They have to resign Calvin Johnson and Stafford right after. Not to mention that Stafford was one of the last "Golden Children" to get those huge #1 pick contracts so I'm sure he is used to making a lot more than he might be offered this time around.
So go the Lions.... their #1 overall QB selection turns out to be pretty good and by the time he is healthy enough to play.... he bolts.

Now I'm curious if Wayne is going to stay? Heard a lot of talk about package deals. I fear a lot of dumpster fires for several years here in Indy.

Wouldn't be shocked if Wayne went too. They have SO many holes to fill, and they won't contend for a few years.....so best to get in younger players and build them up together. Like they did 10-14 years ago.
