"This was not our program, per-say." -Obama

Contemptible or sad in how obvious a dodge it is, take your pick.

I remember when Dubya took credit for "Success" in Iraq.

All Presidents make mistakes, thank God Obama hasn't made any that big.

Wasn't the stupid banner for the ship and crew whom had in fact finished their mission and were heading home?

Yup. It was for the USS Abraham Lincoln.

It doesn't matter if the banner was designed for the ship after finishing its mission in Iraq and heading home (although the White House made the banner).

It was still used for the national speech Bush gave, where he presented an overly confident and optimistic picture of their progress. When most of the cost and casualties were yet to come. Not to mention he came in on a jet when a helicopter would've been easier, the whole thing was a very engineered publicity stunt. So the banner really served dual purposes.

"In January 2009, Bush said that "Clearly, putting 'Mission Accomplished' on an aircraft carrier was a mistake"."
