I'm trying to make it a yearly thing for late feb - early april. Just for the hell of it really, but I'm calling it a discipline thing.
It's kind of just so that I can say I can.
I have a soy intolerance, so a lot of meat substitutes are out for me. I like the challenge. I'm thinking about extending the time frame from Feb 1 - July 4th.
Then I can have my first home grilled burger on the 4th and then immediately puke it up like I did last year when my first red meat food was a burrito from a mexican restaurant while traveling.. I'm relying a lot less on fish this year. I made that exception last year because I had a week long trip to New Orleans and it was my first time in a coastal area.
Edit: Okay one more edit.
I also think that people(Americans) eat way too much meat in their diets. Particularly red meat. I want to get in the habit of relying less and less on chicken, pork, and beef because the rate at which we consume it is insane and unhealthy.
