I despise the TSA, but can you give sources/references/proof for what you just said?

Google this and take your pick of many articles on the subject.

The only way to secure your checked baggage is to fly with a gun. You need the correct case and your own lock that they're are not allowed to open once you check it. You can put all your valuables in with it (computers/cameras/whatever). Takes a little longer at the check out but you know no one will fk with it.

This. I remember an article about a techie/videographer traveled like this all the time.

the only things i put in baggage is stuff i wouldnt get upset over losing. not saying i would like it, but better a pair of pants than a laptop or jewelry or whatever. i would have those with me at all times.

It's a good thing the TSA is there to stop evildoers with their high tech scanners and ever watchful eyes.

Honestly, it's atrocious the amount of theft going on at airports, honestly, it's a joke. I cannot understand why it still goes on and continues to increase. It's not only theft either, the deliberate destruction of property is a problem as well - baggage handlers willfully and intentionally destroying baggage and its contents - insane.

The American people are against terrorists and are prepared to take it up the butt in every ineffective way to make sure the terrorists don't take their freedom. If that means having their belongings stolen or destroyed by the people who are supposed to protect it, so be it.

Glad I won't have to take more than a carry on when I fly to JFK in a couple weeks then.

I have a giant engineers bag that I bought on Amazon. I can fit my glasses (multiple sets), HP Touchpad, pills and much more into it.

That looks cool - I need something to replace my current laptop bag...but the reviews are crap.

How has yours held up?

It has a 4 our of 5 star rating. I have been using mine for about a year. I do know the weak point they speak of (little twist lock buckle thing) and I have taken steps reinforce it. I love the bag even with the flaw.

"All Rita Lamberg has left is an empty jewelry drawer and pictures of the $160,000 worth of watches, rings and necklaces that were stolen from her baggage at JFK Airport."

Anything that valuable should have been on her person!

I have an old painting I always travel with (Picasso) and am fearful of it getting filched from my checked baggage. Guess I'll have to fly thru JFK soon!

I am trying to understand why anyone would need to travel with $160k worth of jewelry. That said, she certainly doesn't deserve to have it stolen from her.
