Build an Obsidian farm then put your chests behind a wall of it. Or make the stair wall with chests embedded in it. (just learned that trick a few days ago) Haven't lost a chest to a creeper in a long time. Blew up 6 chests last night my own damn self when I was assploding outcroppings a little to close to bedrock. Thankfully all I lost was cobble.

I was chewing through them like mad testing out every single freaking one to compile a list of solid mods. Then all hell broke loose with them and peoples accounts so I am sticking to the old school ones that are tried and true 
I'll get back on the bus when the list of veto's on trusted mods starts to grow again and have another go at them. Some solid and safe ones I tinker with are Mo'Creatures (not since patch though), SinglePlayerCommands, sdk-gunmode (haha I lurrrrves it). Those are my steadfast ones, just using singleplayers right now though because mdloader was being a snot with my game so I gave for the time being lol.

Thought I'd post a pic of my latest hole.
The well defined line at the bottom is my grinder whose foundation is at bedrock. You can see all the crap still floating around. Blowing up some of that is what caused me to lose a bunch of chests night before last....lol
Not sure which is more addictive about MC, breaking block, building or blowing things up.

If you're lazy and have MCedit and are using theMo'Creatures mod, here are some horses you can import:

I didn't bother saving the light brown, brown or black ones since they're easy to find and tame.
(Obviously you're a dirty dirty cheater if you use these.)
