XP/Skill system will do nothing in 1.8 the system will just be put in place
they never really said what it will do but they said it will always be lost when you die so you have to make a huge emphasis on surviving

Yeah, no I know that, that's why I said 1.8/1.9 
1.8 is getting the Xp system, and 1.9 is supposed to be when you can use the skill points from the Xp system.

What's just an idea? Cause if you're referring to the Xp/Skill system, it looks like it was already implemented and shown off at PAX. He killed stuff and got Xp/level ups.
Oh he was referring to the loot drops part.
He got a ton of messages to "Save the mob grinders" and tweeted for people to stop.

Or you can just be awesome and find ass loads of diamonds. Once you get that thing that destroys a 3x3x15 chunk of world, as well as the auto-converter, can't imagine it'd be hard to get the rest. Slow start sure, but those Dark matter tools are bad ass.

I'm unsure if it installed correctly, I know how to install mods and this one seems different, and I can't tell if it installed correctly because I don't have materials to make stuff yet (brand new world), still trying to get obsidian to make a nether portal...

The dependancies make it tricky I think.
What I'll probably do is make a copy of my current world, backup the bin and then play the mod with that so I can start with some goodies like diamonds and glowdust. (Since I finally went to the Nether yesterday.)

Looks like the 8th is pretty firm for 1.8s release. Still not 'official' but has been said a couple time by the devs.
