My only concern is if I load it then everyone will have to have it loaded to be able to play on the server.

As long as everyone knows, I don't see an issue 
I had no issue with it being installed when I jumped on the regular map.
Peeps should still be able to do the norm on the server even with it loaded.

I'm guessing their client will throw errors if there are blocks the client doesn't know how to handle.

In single player a client that doesn't know block ID's just doesn't show a block there and behaves as if it isn't. (Found this when switching from 1.6 to 1.7 and loading a 1.7 map. Pistons that used to block water didn't. What a mess.)

Is anyone still playing on the server regularly? I haven't seen many on.
As a side note I'm not sure how many people have seen this, but it's awesome.
