Hey all,

It's been about six or seven months since I uninstalled, and I'm considering coming back for cata. I reinstalled wrath today and when i went to patch, it was a 4 GB download. Yikes. First question - is there any way to make that download faster? Second question - if I install cata, do i really need to download that patch?

I doubt anybody can really answer your question, because we don't know exactly what the Cata disk includes. I imagine that at the very least, you would probably still have to download close to a gig of data, but who knows.

You have to wait until tomorrow anyways, so you may as well let it download.

As for speeding it up, as far as I know, there isn't much you can do.

I survived to the end and got nothing out of it, but hey.

I think there was a blue post recently stating that if you install Cataclysm from the DVD's that will roll you back to 4.01 and you'll have to patch from there again. Since you are significantly behind that mark, that would be a huge jump forward for you. So yes, you should install Cataclysm while most others should probably not.

The first post isn't a blue, but the thread has been sticked and commented on by Blue.

official forums posted:

For those of you who (like me) didn't get the Digital Download pre-sale of Cataclysm.

You do NOT need the Cataclysm disc to install the game.
You already have all the Cataclysm information already on your computer.
Simply go to your account management page and update your account using the Account Upgrade Key once you get home.

If you use the Cataclysm DVD it will revert your game back to version 4.0.1, and you'll have to redownload patches to get back to 4.0.3a.

and the follow up Blue post

Blue posted:

Just as a clarification... if you have all the current patches installed, the Cataclysm DVD will just prompt you to hit 'Play'. You will not even have the option to install by default.

The CD key that comes with the game is required for upgrade, however. You will be able to upgrade on your Account Management page automatically or by entering the CD key contained within the box.

Yeah, looks like you need this too. I'm getting another 500mb patch now after doing so.

For those of you who decided to buy a physical copy of the game, but would like to be ready to rock as soon as you get home:
1. Make sure World of Warcraft and/or the Launcher is completely closed.
2. In Notepad, open up your Config.wtf and Launcher.wtf files located in your World of Warcraft\WTF folder.
3. In both files, change the values of the "accountType" line from LK to CT
4. Save both files and run the Launcher. You should start downloading. Once finished, your game is ready to rock for Tuesday morning. All you will have to do is input your key via the Battle.net site and login. Enjoy.

Note: It's not really necessary to change the launcher.wtf

Well I'm installed now, and there's still a 7.5 gigabyte download. A lot more than I expected.

CD's are for digital fossils. I haven't put a game CD in my computer in years.
