so when i go to www.worldofwarcraft.com or www.wowarmory.com i get sent to the new battlenet WoW site. i can't find a link to either the armory site or the talent calculators anywhere on there. do those 2 things still exist? i found a link on that site to wowhead (weird) and there is a talent calculator there, but i liked the one on the official site better

I have trouble getting to the armory as well. I have tired a few times and usally just give up. I did end up finding away to the armory some how in the section where you can creat an RRS feed for your character and create a link to it, copy and pasted the link and then clicked on my profile from there, but you shouldn't have to do all that to see a char on the armory.
The search bar says something like "search the site and armory" but when I put my char name into that search I get no results.

It's right on the front page... Top right has a search bar, type in a character name and it searches for characters/guilds etc.
For a talent calculator, just use wowtal.com, better than any of the others i've seen.
edit: For the Search you have to do name@server

Just tried the search box and it wors very well for looking up characters/items/etc.
The items part of the armory is also in the breadcrumbs menu on the Game page. If you mouse over the Game->Items link, you'll get a secondary menu.

Interestingly, the Game portion of the site also has links to Wowhead and Wowpedia, which are excellent resources.
