just had my new computer delivered today the wife said and was wandering would it be faster to DL the whole game/patches from battle.net, or install via my game discs? i have a Christmas party tonight and will be gone till tomorrow morning..was hoping to have it complete since i know the patching can take a bit of time.

I would just download the whole thing, since you can fire and forget it, come back and it should be done. It takes a while but it shouldn't be that long.
I think it is always faster to use your game disks, but then you are still going to have to patch after that.

be warned- with the changes they have made for cataclysm, if you try to install from the disks, it will NOT work after the first update. also when you do the download, well.. let's just say i and doing that right now, i started the DL yesterday, around 5:00 pm, eastern time. it is still downloading. it's MAYBE 20% done. the blizzard torrent system has got to be the worst ever created.

damn! didnt realize it was the long of DL. cant wait to get out of work and set up the DL then. thanks for the advice.

Do you own the Cataclysm disks?
If you do, you can load WoW classic and then upgrade right to Cataclysm.
If you downloaded it, go into battle.net and grab the latest downloader to hopefully avoid a few patches.

that is how i am currently doing it. i'm on a dsl line,and for some reason, when my system goes idle, the d/l rate drops to 0, so i can't just start it and go and do something else.in the last day and a half, it's done about 4 gigs if about 14. i HATE the bliz downloader.

if u install the client from the cataclysm disc, u will need to download nearly 7gb or patches. so u can compare that to what the dler says if u try to dl the entire game

found out what i was doing wrong- when the computer was going to sleep mode it was pauseing the download. i had to change the settings so the computer would not go to sleep mode.it still is takeing a full day to download the whole thing though. (currently 572 megs left of about 14 gigs)
