Could someone explain to me in a short explanation what the PvP/RvR on a normal server entails?


I've played other games before which are not going in a playable direction (strictly my opinion, not asking for debate)and wanted to give WoW a fair shot. I've tried reading several posts but cannot seem to figure out what there is, after all the expansions.


Not interested in bashing other games, I just want to know where you can fight and if it's instanced, open-world, whatever.

If you pay on a PVP server, then you have open world, and instanced.

If you play on a PVE server, then you really only have instanced. There are a few areas where you can "flag for PVP" to do pvp based quests( like capture the towers in Hellfire or Terrokar)..but that is strictly by choice.


On a PVP realm, you are auto flagged for combat when you enter certain zones (only lowbie areas that read in green letters offer you any safe haven, and even then if you attack an enemy, you are flagged for at least 5 minutes until after pvp ceases)


The instanced comes in two varieties..Battlegrounds (which mix players from all different servers) and Arena (where you make a team, and generally only fight those on your server, but from either faction)...

PVE normal severs are the way to go you can flag for pvp anywhere at anytime if you want to. You also get access to the same Raids, instances, battle grounds and Arena's as PVP servers.


There really isn't any point to play on a pvp server imo.

Except you cannot attack anyone unless they are flagged as well.

Always fun to PVP over that Ore node;pp

it can be! I should have also said I play on both pvp and pve servers too but really the last time I had fun on my pvp server was at release when everyone was leveling from 1-60..
