On my server, in late WOLK the price of abyss crystals was so depressed (due to the ease of heroics and ICC10R), that it actually made good business sense to buy those to break them into Greater Cosmic Essences and use those to sell inscription vellums on the AH.
How is that tip relevant today, I have no idea.
