Are the add-ons from Curse trustworthy? The last time I dl'ed anything from Curse.com my computer paid the price and I had to clear it off.

As long as you don't use the curse client, you should be OK. The last I heard about malware on there, it was coming in via an ad displayed in the curse client's embedded IE browser object.
