I bought 2, just in case I want to go back and RAF sometime in the future. Didn't bother with the expansions since they will likely be cheap in the future as well.
And it's not desperate. They did this a bit before Cataclysm was released as well I think. Except then it was $5 each for Classic and BC.
I bought an extra account at that time so a friend and I could do RAF.
