Welcome back!
Paul Mua'dib and Karesta are both fine allegiances. Paul's is smaller and tight-knit with almost exclusively high levels (200+), but quite active; Karesta's is huge and very active with quests for all level ranges.
Check out the Asheron's Call Wiki ( http://asheron.wikia.com/wiki/Home) for all the game-based knowledge you could ever want. I'm about to resub tonight as well (I think I saw you in the marketplace today right when you logged in). I'll look for you and help you out.
