I have access to Photoshop and Illustrator CS4 at work. I've been futzing with both and I've found some tutorials for both (hooray for unlimited safaribooks online!) but I'm always on the hunt for really good resources. I'd love to learn to use both of these to the fullest.

Where do you guys go for your resources? Books, tutorials, websites, etc? Pretty much I'm looking for anything that ISN'T a college class, although I may do something like that someday lol.

i've actually learned everything through trial and error and self teaching.

this site might help you figure a few things out - http://www.photoshopstar.com/
you should be able to pick up alot of ideas and techniques by reading through it.

i've just found that the best way to learn most of it is to play with it as much as possible.

Yeah and that is a great way to learn things but one thing I've learned about myself is that I like to look at/watch/read as much as I can because more often than not I will learn a new shortcut or a much simpler way of doing something that I was doing the hard way haha.

I've got the super basics and the general stuff down, now I just need to hone my skills and learn details. Already the videos I've watched on Photoshop have made me go "omg that's awesome and it cuts the time I spent doing xyz at least in half!" on several things.

I will definitely check out that site! Thanks!

Most of what I've learned is through trial and error and Youtube tutorials. If I see something I like I try to do it. If it's really tricky I search for a tutorial. The hard part is knowing what terms to use for searches. I've found lots of stuff to try and learned a lot just through related videos after finding one I like.

Eventually you start putting it all together and little tricks and techniques become habit.

I bought a couple books and found them mostly useless. Maybe that's just because I've never really learned from books, I have to do stuff to learn it.

tuts+ is a great network.

photoshop tutorials (some free, some not)

psd.tutsplus.com

the whole network is there, pretty much everything from 2d, 3d, motion, sound, all the way to coding and programming. everything is there, use the network button in the topright to browse through the stuff

Lynda.com is amazing as well (although its not free)

Well CS5 is out of my budget right now...I'm going to stick with the free CS4 I have available at work

Thank you for the suggestions though! I'll definitely check those out
