1) Remove the boarder


2) Remove the (r) symbol


3) Make the font and puma blue


4) Size it down to mega-icon size

probably unless someone complains. i'm not sure of the official stance but the reality of it is i don't think anyone notices VN enough to care. *shrug* i imagine the worst that happens is someone complains and we remove it.

my first reaction when seeing this request the other day was thinking "is it really okay to remove the trademark symbol?". that was followed shortly after by "wait...whose going to notice to care...". so if it ends up being a problem your icon may go poof.

I'm not a lawyer, but from an IPR point of view no, you are not allowed to use a copyrighted image and much less modify it in any way. Companies are especially rigid about changing their logo, be it unofficial resizing and certainly removing any copyright information.

That said, since the icons are user-controlled these days, there is no way to control the use of copyrighted images - and 99% of icons in the past have used them anyway. In fact, there are very few icons where the graphics are original or permission to use them has been asked and granted, unless a CC (not sure if this is enough, in fact) or PD is used. If / when an affiliated person (e.g. us volunteers) use and modify copyrighted images, it might reflect on the VN or even IGN, but when a user does it, at the most someone will tell us/you to change or remove the icon.

Back when we regulated uploaded icons the rule was that if there was an obvious copyright on an image then we wouldn't use it. If anyone complained about a copyrighted image being used, it would be removed. I alos wouldn't allow anything from Deviant Art without the original artists permission.

It's impossible to regulate that now.

and I am not using it to further any real goal or to be dubious and mislead consumers so although it could technically be an issue, like grim said who would even care to begin with?

They won't waste the time and energy on little old me. If it does become an issue we can always just remove it, no worries
