Don't have much of a sweet tooth.. Garlic chicken with rosemary or basil is always good. thats the easy part.. its chicken..
fer tasty au gratin or scallopped or just call them Rasta's potatoes
if you have time..
3.5 lbs russet potatoes
2 or 3 pints heavy cream
at least a half pound of gruyere cheese (make sure each layer is covered.. this is not built fer health.. its fer taste)
losta pepper (at least half teaspoon)
enough salt (no more than half teaspoon)
full bulb minimum of garlic (depends on if you like like garlic)
1/4 cube butter (or more.. you know yer family)
some add some onions if you like.. me.. not so much.. but remember yer herbs.. rosemary, tarragon or basil I have found the best.. pick one and enjoy each on its own
take the cream and put in large enough pot on mid heat,, add garlic.. pepper and salt and some butter (go ahead.. make Paula Dean jealous)
cut taters about 1/8 to 1/4 inch thin.. lotsa them.. just make sure to barely cover them with the heavy cream
full up big pot with that stuff.. watch fer about half hour or so.. (football.. history channel.. whatever)
check the stuff in pot with fork.. should be kinda tender.
put a layer in a big glass lasagna tray..
cover with cheese..
put another layer in big lasagna tray.. cover with cheese again
put another layer in big lasagna tray.. cover with cheese again
pour in any leftover cream from big sauce pan..
bake fer 45 min or so at about 350-400 degrees until bubbly on top (you should know yer oven.. if not.. get to know it)
because my family loves this stuff. I just usually double it..
I make this on Thanksgiving and Chistmas.. the heart needs a rest in between..
my brother in law asked why i didn't make this last night fer his wedding party.. its because i want to see him alive on his first anniversery...
