What do you guys think about this? Im not completely sold on the idea, he has it all at USC as long as the NCAA doesnt come down on him for viloations...

he's a rockstar at USC and around college football...not sure why he would want to make the move to the NFL, even though he has had exp. with the Pats years ago.

Money and too many recruiting violation hassles. I also think he already saw the writing on the wall with this down year. Although not nearly as bad as Southern schools, once you reach the mountaintop people expect you to be there every year. Even great coaches aren't going to last like they used to. Bowden and Paterno are the last of the major college coaches that will be with a team for 2-4 decades. But mostly I think it's getting out while the getting's good.

Hiring Mike Reilly will be a great call. Feel bad for Oregon State for losing a good young coach, but I think this sets up a pretty good rivalry between Chip Kelly's squad and Reilly at USC in the next 5-10 years.

edited to add: when I say recruiting violation, that might not be entirely accurate. Not sure if the McKnight thing counts as recruiting or some other kind of violation... just using the term as a catch all. I don't think they have anything on Carroll specifically.

If Carroll hasn't done something, then you pretty much have a Callipari situation with the Reggie Bush and other assorted BS.

So "they've agreed in principle" to hire Carroll. I'm hoping that in 3 years when Carroll has won only 12 games in Seattle and Brian Kelly has failed to win 10 or more games any season in South Bend, that the Irish go full bore to get Carroll in South Bend... Ugh, got too excited and now need a new pair of underwear.

I dont think Carroll would go to South Bend unless they get rid of some of their acedemic standards.

If we're wishing and hoping, I'd rather just wish Kelly does well.

Holy crap... Kiffin is jetting the Vols after one year. Just feels skeevy on so many levels. Great for us Notre Dame fans though. More reason to get jacked up for the game each year.

800,000 dollar buy out? That sounds kind of cheap when you consider some of these other coaches who have left schools had 2-3 million dollar buy outs. Tennessee lost a great coach for cheap.
