not a surprise...he was just terrible in Seattle. i would have like to seen him healthy with my fav. team the Reds, but it was never meant to be...injuries killed him every year. Cincinnati had soo much hope for him, basically crowned him the next home run king and it was going to happen while he wore a Reds uniform...

awesome player, amazing hightlights to watch, and the swing was something that is just draw dropping...

This is a hard pill to take, he was just dynamite during his first stint in Seattle. He did seem to be snake bit in Cinci as far as injuries go (didn't he break both his wrists the one year?). Even as an Indians fan it's hard to believe he never became the next home run king...and the sad thing is it wouldn't have an asterisk next to it if HE was the one who did it.

One of my best memories of baseball as a kid was going to the King Dome in the mid 90s and seeing the Mariners play the White Sox. Griffey and Frank Thomas my(favorite player as a kid) both went yard in that game.

In the 90's Griffey wasn't just the face of baseball, he was baseball. I remember when the Padres were just godawful and the Mariners came to town for inter league the series would sell out in no time. We all wanted his shoes, his glove, his video game, all of his baseball cards. There are always going to be players like Pujols that come and go putting up insane numbers but who knows if there will ever be a super star like Jr. ever again.

I remember wanting that card bad and the local card shop selling the packs for something like 5-8 bucks each around 97 or so, they must have made a killing.
