OK, so I'm running a very friendly league with my co-workers to raise company morale. Since I am doing this, I left basically the entire standard scoring in for the league:

QB, WR, WR, RB, RB, TE, W/T, K, DEF, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN

Passing Yards 25 yards per point
Passing Touchdowns 4
Interceptions -1
Rushing Yards 10 yards per point
Rushing Touchdowns 6
Reception Yards 10 yards per point
Reception Touchdowns 6
Return Touchdowns 6
2-Point Conversions 2
Fumbles Lost -2


Am I correct in assuming that in a standard scored league, the majority of points are scored by running backs and quarterbacks? I was thinking of not really drafting any receivers until the 5th round (unless someone drops way far). Or are the receiving/rushing yards basically a wash?

WR's are more or less second tier guys, but if you get one of the top tier WR's they can be very important. If you draft near the end of the round grabbing a top tier WR is much more benefical than grabbing a mid tier RB1. Andre Johnson is just going to out perform guys at McCoy and Mendenhall. In standard scoring leagues QB's are not as important as you might think. 250 Yard passing day with two touchdowns is only 18 points. Where as a WR that gets 100 yards and touchdown is worth 16 points. A RB with 100 yards and two touchdowns in worth 22 points. Really the difference is not horribly bad between the two. It all depends on how often a player can put up those kinds of numbers or better. Andre Johnson is likely to perform close to that stat line than McCoy is to perform to the RB stat line I mentioned above. Drew Brees is much more likely to have a better day then listed above than a guy like David Garrard or Matt Cassel. WR's are less important than a top tier QB, but if you are stuck with a 8-12 QB, then you might as well grab some top tier WR's. Fantasy football is all about getting the most value available. I will say this, a guy like Vick can be very dangerous in FF; because it is only 10 yards per point for rushing, and he can rack up several points with just his rushing ability, and still end up with 200-250 yards passing and a few touchdowns.

If you can get a top tier WR then I would get him.

I kind of balance it out and take a QB in a mid round.

It all depends what pick you have and who's available to you, and who will be available for your next pick.

My advice... do a lot of mock drafts and figure out who's going where, and what your strategy will be based on what pick you have. It really helps a lot.

Maybe you'll figure something out like.. wow I'm seeing a lot of RBs I like for my RB2 or Flex position in rounds 5-9, I don't need to get two big name RBs early, etc.
