was it the right solution?
i felt a suspension was in order for both, but not a firing. an honest mistake, is a honest mistake..but also his personal work history would have to come into account before a decision would be made...and not based on the idiot viewers that call for blood in every situation.
the broadcaster's wife is Asian...i found that interesting, and added to the strangeness of the article.
wanted to know what you fella's thought?

Honest mistake my ass. An Asian-American that is getting the business, just like Tebow did, for his faith, has a bad game and someone uses the word "Chink" in an article...
Yea, honest mistake, sure.

I am completely outraged by ESPN's reaction to what happened. Look at it as in insult for a second, it would be one of the weakest insults I have ever heard. "Hey you got a chink in that armor?". If it was meant as insult it makes very little sense. What armor? Why would I care if there is an Asian in the armor? Are we going to war Samurai style or something? When looked at in the context of what was being talked about - the NYK loss and Lin's nine turnovers - I have no problem with what was said. It is a very common phrase that is used way to much in sports, but that is not reason to suspend a guy, not to mention fire someone. Complete overreaction by ESPN on this one, they have taken a feel good story and completely corrupted it by the way the reacted. Since I found out an honest man lost his job and another a paycheck for a month over this, I have found myself rooting against the Knicks and Lin. I hope we will soon discover that the chink - as in a crack, or weak spot - in the armor is actually a fissure and the Knicks miss the playoffs.

For the most part, I agree with Amendial. I believe it was an honest mistake. It's a commonly used phrase. And it was a complete overreaction by ESPN. They could have given the guy a slap on the wrist, spun the story as a regrettable error, people would have forgotten about it in a week. Unfortunately the guy made a high profile mistake while working for one of the biggest sports entities in the world. And corporations are so scared of bad press that they sacrifice the little guy to save face.I don't take it as far as rooting against Lin and the Knicks. Jeremy Lin has said he's not mad at the guy. He probably feels bad that someone lost their job over something so trivial. ESPN could have gotten a lot more good press by having Obama host a beer summit with Lin and the writer.

chink in one's armor
A vulnerable area, as in Putting things off to the last minute is the chink in Pat's armor and is bound to get her in trouble one day . This term relies on chink in the sense of "a crack or gap," a meaning dating from about 1400 and used figuratively since the mid-1600s.
I did a lot of searches of the phrase and found no racial meaning what-so-ever in it. Disney grossly over reacted in the firing and suspension. But on the plus side, there are 2 people about to get very rich over this.

Now Ben and Jerry's has to apologize for its "Linsanity" flavor because they included fortune cookies. Are you kidding me? So if you make a tribute to a mexican baseball or basketball player am I not allowed to have it involve anything with Burritos, or Tacos, or any other type of CULTURAL food? Fortune cookies are not an insult to his hertiage, they are a part of the Chinese culture. I am absolutely frustrated with all of the outrage over certain parts of this linsanity story. Throw in fortune cookies as a cultural tribute to a player and the world is going to end, but openly discriminate against a group of Americans by denying them the right to get married and its perfectly fine. This is exactly what wrong with America now days.
