Our eldest is going to be 5 soon and for his b-day we were looking at getting him a Nintendo DS. I just haven't had much time to research games so figured I would come here.

We are mostly looking for educational but fun type games that makes him use some reasoning/logic. He does math at a 4th grade level and reads around a late 3rd grade level so he can likely play some more advanced games as well. He's perfectly content to sit there with BTs iTouch and play math games but getting those two to share is well... you know.

What are some good games for younger kids?

He's not overly crazy about Mario Kart type games as I think his hand/eye coordination is still a bit off and he gets frustrated easily because of that. One or two silly ones will probably get bought as well like the one with the pet dog you can play with.

Carnival Games

I can't remember if its brain quest or big brain academy there's one that starts out for ages 5-6

They also have Wonder Pets.

Also, the DSi can get on the internet, not sure if theres a way to disable it, but the DS lite can only get online thru the Wii.

You can complettly control pretty much all content on the DSi.

My younger ones like pokemon, and there are some dora games and stuff they like as well.

Thanks for the input so far. The internet/camera thing was also a bit of a touchy point, good to know that you can disable things when needed. As you can guess, BT and I will likely "share" it with him

We got one for our 8 year olds birthday the other day. You can restrict every item on it.

basically you pick a parent passcode and lock whatever you do not want them to have access to. You can only pick to lock game ratings as well.
