Last spring when I would drop my daughter off at pre-school I noticed a boy being dropped off by his grandfather who was not in a car seat. I thought it was bad but gave them the benefit of the doubt, thinking maybe they didn't have it etc etc. Then I noticed that everyday the grandfather would drop the boy off and he would just be in the back seat. I ended up not saying anything to the grandfather or the school. Then this summer my daughters school had day camp and noticed the boy was dropped off again without a car seat!!

I am wondering if I should say something to the school? The child and grandfather are Indian in descent and I wonder if they just don't realize it's the law. I was going to say something to the grandfather but I didn't think it was my place, and I did not want to cause a scene infront of the whole school saying something to him and have him freak out or something.

And to top it all off the grandfather is a TERRIBLE driver! I would hate to see something happen to that little boy.

What are the state laws regarding them? If it's not illegal, I would leave it alone.

You sure he's not in a booster seat in there? Sorry didn't get an idea of age from your OP. Can't imagine anywhere in North America NOT having carseat laws in place, though.

Either way, I make it my business not to stick my nose into others'... I just won't be "THAT lady" even though a few times I should probably have said something about things like this.

I'm not too outspoken, others might be more comfortable about confrontation with a stranger. Not I.

My son's school is 90% Hispanic (over six hundred kids). I'd say that a quarter to a half of those that are driven (that aren't riding the bus) do not ride in car seats. Not only that, but they have younger siblings (under three) that aren't in car seats, either. I actually got tired of it last year/the year before and said something to one of the administrators, who didn't seem too concerned about calling the police or saying anything to any of the parents.

My guess would be (one) that they police wouldn't/haven't done much to crack down on it in the past, and (two) if the police show up, half the student body will disappear.

My child has a Britax booster in each of our cars, and in another three months or so we'll be picking up a Britax (either Boulevard or Decathlon) for the baby. *shrug*

I would say something to him or to the school, even so much as to alert the authorities - but that's just how I am. I think the boy's safety is much more critical than what someone else may think of me.

I live in Mass and it IS the law. And I am sure there is no booster seat in the car. He is sitting on the seat itself.

I will just email the school, it is a very small school with only 25 kids in each session so they do take a very personal/caring attitude with the children and parents.

yeah say something. What if you didn't say anything and something happened? I know I'd feel hella guilty.
