Well I have a wet pail meaning i have a Rubbermaid bin with water in it. It's by the bathroom and I hold the diaper by the front and back in dunk it in the toilet to get off the bulk. It's not really that gross, you arent touching the toilet at all. Then I toss it in the bin. When it's time to wash I start with a rinse cycle to get rid of any poop. Some people have sprayers attached to the toilet. Some people use a dry pail but you have to wash pretty often IMO to keep the smell down. I"m building my stash so i was like every other day. I'm hoping to make enough so that I can wash twice a week.
I love them cause they are so cute. They have become an addiction to me. I've been making my own now and really am having fun. It's no longer just taking a burp cloth and folding it up although some people do. I"m personally making all in ones which is basically like a disposable diaper. There are several different kinds and lots of people that make them. I use them at home, at night and at daycare. I use disposable if i'm gone for a long time with no access to a washer. It's just been fun researching and getting to know the huge cloth diaper community.
Here are a few i've made.
These are some I made for my friend's girl
This is my Pip Squeak in his camo dipe:
And this one is one i bought off a work at home mom.
