If you listen to the start of it, it sounds like a sped up version of Mary Jane by Tom Petty. Even the lyric's are sorta the same. Also the guitar bit at the end which is pretty cool, sounds like Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix.

I like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers & Danny California is a great song but it makes me wonder if they shopped at Songs R Us when they were writing it.

Thoughts ?

I dunno, but I still like it. I did think of Petty's song immediately upon hearing it, though.

It's pop music... You're gonna get that frequently.

And as far as the ending, both Frusciante and Flea openly admit to being directly and predominantly influenced by Hendrix. Flea even has a Jimi Hendrix bust tattooed on his arm.

Problem is Dani California isnt even in the top 10 songs of their new album, its just really poppy and radio friendly, so it got played like crazy. Maybe it was a rip off, but lets be honest, how many bands are as original and unique as RHCP (besides Pink Floyd, i cant think of any).

I haven't bought that CD as I haven't liked much of anything that RHCP has put out after Blood Sugar Sex Magic. I was listening to Freaky Styley the other day, which I haven't listened to in a long time, and the music they were making back then is what I liked from them; the fun, funky stuff. These days, everything I've heard is dreary and depressing. I realize that bands need to evolve but they're like a totally different band than what they used to be - they used to be FUN.
